INNOVATION AND FAMILY TRADITION
A conversation with Angela Ritter, Managing Director of ritter & bader
Angela Ritter runs the family business ritter & bader in Weißenhorn together with her older brother. The company, which specializes in refrigeration and air conditioning technology, was founded by her father 30 years ago. In this interview, Angela Ritter offers insights into the company’s philosophy and the challenges of running a family business.
Who are you?
My name is Angela Ritter, and together with my brother, I am part of the management team at ritter & bader in Weißenhorn.
How did you get into this?
Our father founded the company 30 years ago. We grew up with it and have developed a close connection through summer jobs, internships, and longer stints working there. After careful consideration, we decided to work together as a family. Carrying on our father’s life’s work is both a great challenge and a great joy. After two years on the management team, I can say: It suits us, it works well, and we enjoy it.
What does a family business mean to you?
A family business is characterized by close, personal, and open collaboration. It offers great flexibility to address individual needs. We can adapt to achieve the best results together.
What does the company Ritter & Bader do?
We are specialists in refrigeration and air conditioning technology. As a manufacturer of cooling equipment, we develop, produce, and support customized air conditioning solutions for the mechanical engineering industry in close collaboration with our customers.
What is important to you when it comes to working with your employees?
My goal is to create a work environment where everyone enjoys coming to work. I want our employees to enjoy being here just as much as I do.
What do you do in that field?
We maintain close personal contact and cater to individual needs. One example is our EGYM Wellpass program, which was introduced at the suggestion of an employee.
I take great pleasure in facilitating and implementing such initiatives.
What are you and your brother most proud of when you look at the company?
We are particularly proud of the family-friendly and employee-oriented workplaces that our father created. As a family-owned business, we can offer a work environment that is different from that of large corporations.
Our goal is to maintain and further improve this quality.
What qualities should a new employee have?
We are looking for open-minded, team-oriented people. Curiosity and flexibility are important, as is a willingness to work hard. As a small company, we need every single person to be successful.
Do you have any goals for the future?
Our goal is to thrive as a successful small business. We want to secure our location, continue to enjoy our work, and through ongoing development efforts
remain sustainable.
What advice would you give a young person who has just applied to work with you?
I recommend being bold and trying out unconventional approaches. If you’re passionate about what you do, you can succeed in any field.
What is it like working with your brother on the executive board?
Our collaboration works exceptionally well. We complement each other well with our different strengths and support one another. It’s a pleasure to share responsibilities and exchange ideas. Our close, family-like relationship is a key foundation for this.
How would you describe the people who work at ritter & bader?
Our team is very diverse. As a small company, we can cater to our employees’ individual needs and give them the freedom to thrive. This diversity makes our work exciting and rewarding every day.
What is your daily routine like?
My daily routine is varied and full of surprises. No two days are alike, and time just flies by. As my father used to say: We’re all “jack-of-all-trades” here—versatile and always ready to pitch in wherever needed.
What is your favorite radiator?
As a non-technical person, I don’t have a particular favorite cooler. However, through my experience in warehousing and manufacturing, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for mechanical engineering and craftsmanship. To me, every cooler has its own unique appeal.
“OUR GOAL IS TO MAINTAIN THE QUALITY OF OUR WORKPLACES AND CONTINUALLY IMPROVE THEM.”
